It bothers me when channels that natively record in 16:9, letterbox their video into a 4:3 frame for their SDTV broadcast.

This is inevitably stretched again by EVERY modern TV resulting in a stretched image with black bars on top of it.

BBC gets it right by using anamorphic widescreen instead.

Ok you gotta admit “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone“ sounds way cooler than the original name

“Sorcerer’s Stone” evokes a picture of a mysterious wizard with an enchanted gemstone

“Philosopher’s Stone” on the other hand makes you think of Socrates trying to pass a kidney stone

It’s incredibly interesting that the only way to pick up some skills is by being exposed to it during early childhood.

I’m talking about abilities like Perfect Pitch, Musicality, Chess Ability, Bilingualism etc

Now imagine frying the kid’s brain in that critical time with iPad brainrot instead

Hot take:
I think GNOME's naming scheme is really misguided in trading iconic names for dull, uninspired labels, all for the sake of "clarity".

Naming is very little about clarity. It is about flair and personality.

tbh It even feels a bit insulting to the user. "Web"? come on.

We talk endlessly about network byte-order and host byte-order (big-endian vs little-endian).

Why does no one talk about the bit-order (MSB-first vs LSB-first) given the network transmits bits and not bytes?

I bet people really want to have subtitles in audiobooks but are too embarrassed to admit it.

I personally would love to see the entire text of a book embedded as lyrics in an audiobook file

I don’t think there’s anyone in the world who can reliably tell apart a 320kbps MP3 from the lossless original.

The reason you store all your music in lossless is to prevent generation loss from repeated transcoding. (e.g., listening to an mp3 on bluetooth headphones (aac))
