A study of how the notion of "accountability" is rearticulated in far-right discourses – recentred around a monstrous image of "the left" that ramps up hand-me-down neoliberal discourses

A riff critiquing AI in Ed Tech, and ‘Cogniti’ in particular
AI stifles desire, destroys the social link and operates on a death drive logic

a textbook example of far right normalisation. The energy of the moral panic and monstrous fantasies transfigured into everyday doxa
“It’s like a hydra effect. They’ve planted seeds for a vine & now the vine’s taking off in all the directions it wants to go.” New story @inthesetimes.com & @hechingerreport.org on how the Independence Law Center spread anti-trans school policies across PA & how they continue to spread on their own.
“Clever as serpents”: How a legal group’s anti-LGBTQ policies took root in school districts across a state
In Pennsylvania, parents are challenging Independence Law Center policies while trying to avoid a legal case that could go to the conservative Supreme Court.

and, as a species of coked-up media politics, X's ideological mission is very much a transnational one - a set of affordances for local "ideological entrepreneurs" to delegitimise the journalistic infrastructures of the nation state.

I think this is exactly right - everything is hiding in plain sight. In some ways, Trump's press conference response to the Maduro kidnapping forgoes the need for explanatory analysis, given how nakedly he connects the dots between the authoritarian ambitions at home and abroad
Far-right leaders surprisingly often mean what they say. The rest of us, instead of believing them, surprisingly often look for “what they really mean” or call it theater. But it’s usually wiser to take them at their word. If Trump says he wants Greenland, he’ll probably try to get Greenland.

Trump's boot-boy in chief pining the blame on "the neoliberal experiment" for the stifling of his racist colonial fantasies...as if the critique of "neoliberalism" is now the idiom of the far-right

Impressive cowardice by George Stephanopoulos to do a 14 minute interview with Rubio and make no reference to "international law" or "sovereignty". The "mainstream media" that Trump hates so much acting like the lapdogs of America first
STEPHANOPOULOS: Trump said the US is going to 'run Venezuela.' Under what legal authority?

RUBIO: We want a better future for the people of Venezuela

STEPHANOPOULOS: I'll ask again -- what is the legal authority?

RUBIO: We have court orders

@islates.bsky.social do people mainly just talk to themselves here too? I'm looking for a new outlet for my solipsism...
