got a birthday sequence from www.furaffinity.net/user/simonaq... - this year I fell hard for the Temeraire novels, so this shows Rykela reading one of them and having a steamy, romantic imagine spot of herself in his world being courted by the enormous British gentledragon~
Rykela, an enormous hermaphroditic dragoness, is lounging back on a soft mattress and pile of cushions, kneading up on hir own enormous ballsack with hir feet. Shi's reading a novel with a blushing smile on hir face and is clearly very into it, making a huge cum pile on the floor that's letting off steaming scent clouds of musk. This is what Rykela is imagining, more or less, except perhaps far larger and more mega-hyper than the picture is actually depicting. Shi's picturing hirself as a gorgeous, svelte and feminine feral dragon being courted by Temeraire himself, the two sailing ship-sized creatures cuddling together in a tangled pile and tenderly playing with each others' genitals while they freely and wantonly blast copious dragon-sized ropes of spunk in all directions. Leave it to an old British dragon to know how to properly woo a lady~

They bloom in the Appalachian mountains at the same time as the larger, far more common Downy Rattlesnake Plantain -late July/early August - and although they share much of the same habitat (usually sheltered under rhododendron) they're far more sensitive.

Here are the ones I saw last week!

Two dwarf rattlesnake plantains growing side by side, showing off the distinctive pattern on the leaves. The one on the right has a stalk of four tiny, bell-shaped white flowers in bloom! Each of the two is probably a different plant, as they do not spread underground through runners like the downy rattlesnake plantain. The leaves in the leaf litter around them are all much larger and give a good indication of size! A slightly larger and probably older dwarf rattlesnake plantain, this one with a taller stalk that has 15 white flowers on it in a rather disorganized spiral. Even at this size, if you didn't know where to look for them you would never notice them! The leaves stick around for winter (though they sometimes turn red), much like the downy rattlesnake plantain. I have found some before in the midst of a early March flurry.

This is Pinebarrens Death-Camas, an endangered flower found in less than half a dozen rocky, exposed sites worldwide - primarily at Dolly Sods Wilderness and here near Grandfather Mountain. It seems to be a very good year for them! They were far more abundant here than I have seen previously.

A tall, vaguely conical raceme of white, six-petaled Pinebarrens Death-Camas flowers is in bloom in Avery County, NC. These flowers are found in mossy depressions of a flat rock outcrop where water tends to collect that allows other plants such as chokeberries and rock harlequin to grow. The full sun and exposure to the elements makes it a harsh environment that only certain specialized plants can thrive in, with the right adaptations. A close-up of the densely clustered Death-Camas flowers arranged in a spiraling formation around their central stalk. These whitish flowers have six broadly oval petals, a tawny cream colored center and orange-brown anthers but lack the green markings on the petals that some death camas flowers have. A view of vegetation growing at the edge of a sloping rock outcrop that has many flowering clusters of Pinebarrens Death-Camas rising out of it, along with a yellow and black striped Tiger Swallowtail butterfly on one of the flowers. Many in this group had only just begun to bloom or were still in bud.

Southern Bush Honeysuckle growing abundantly at a Blue Ridge Parkway overlook just north of Graveyard Fields. This is looking north down into the East Fork Pigeon River gorge as it heads downstream towards where Skinny Dip Falls used to be before Tropical Storm Fred destroyed it in 2021.

A view of the seep beside the old road that serves as the trail, plus another close-up of the flowers. In North Carolina, cranberries are generally only found at a scarce handful of mountain bogs - and perhaps even more sparsely, scattered swampy areas along the coast.

A gravel road runs to the left next to a large bank covered in short cranberry shrubs, with a small stream releasing water straight into the trail that keeps it very wet at all hours. This is at approximately 5800' elevation. Three rocket-shaped pink cranberry flowers dangle from the short-leaved stalks of the plant, with their petals in varying states of curvature.

A bumblebee working hard among American Cranberry flowers at a high-elevation seep on Black Balsam Knob near the Blue Ridge Parkway. Lots of buzzy wiggles~!

These are the cranberries that were cultivated into the produce we all know about, but the plant itself is very rare here in the state.

A black and yellow bumblebee with large orange balls of pollen on its hindlegs dangles from a distinctively rocket-shaped cranberry flower. The small pink flowers dangle towards the ground and have petals that curl back upwards. Although the plants themselves are low-growing, almost creeping, their flowers are incredibly unique and cannot be mistaken for any others. Pollination is performed by native bumblebees (as well as sweat bees and mining bees) that dangle upside-down on the flower and vibrate their wings to make the pollen rain down on them like salt from a shaker. Later this fall, these plants will produce abundant edible berries that will be an excellent treat for birds.

A Round-Leaved Sundew nestled among stag's-horn clubmoss and sphagnum moss on the Ivestor Gap Trail. It seems to have been enjoying a snack!

The circular leaves of a carnivorous sundew plant can be seen in the center of the picture, surrounded by large branching lime-green stalks of bristly clubmoss. An extreme close-up of the sundew reveals the remains of an insect it has digested - most likely, only the exoskeleton remains.

Spent yesterday running around the Great Balsams and saying goodbye to a lot of these familiar places before I move. It was bittersweet yet the flowers were as wonderful as always. The many seeps along the Ivestor Gap trail are lovely!

A close-up of a single leaf of a Round-Leaved Sundew plant raised above a bed of feathery sphagnum mosses it grows atop of. The sundew is a carnivorous plant with red trichomes (hair-like appendages) ringing its leaves that collect the mucus it secretes to trap small insects lured in by the sweet aroma. When the insects step on them, the sensitive trichomes instantly close around them and trap them there to be digested. These are very small plants (as you can tell by the moss around them, which is approximately the same size) yet they tend to grow in dense clumps all piled over each other so if you know what you are looking for and are careful about it you can spot them pretty consistently.

A sloped entrance/exit, complete with directional markings and a stop sign, leading out of a parking lot that terminates abruptly on a grassy knoll. The adjoining lot has a car wash there but they just never connected the two lots for some reason.

Several extremely green waterleaf leaves, shaped roughly like maple leaves, spread around a tiny group of white flowers that extend out on a short peduncle (branching stalk) in a way that resembles a chandelier. None of these leaves have the characteristic mottling, since that only appears on the earliest leaves to sprout. A close-up of the waterleaf flowers. Only four are in bloom, with about a dozen others around them remaining in bud. The stamens extend below the flower conspicuously, about twice the length of the calyx, each topped with a yellow tip. There are not many species that grow in this part of the mountains, so the fact that they are white and not terribly hairy means they are pretty definitely Broad-Leaf Waterleaf plants, not the alternate (Appalachian Waterleaf).

Saw some of this woodland pinkroot myself growing along a wet roadside ditch in upstate South Carolina recently, just outside of Caesar's Head State Park. The flowers are honestly stunning when seen close up!

The curled lobes of the open flower are yellow in the center and green on the outside with well-defined separation that looks like striping. A minute insect can be seen just barely peeking out of the center of the flower! A slightly less close-up view of several pinkroot flowers, two of which are open, along with a small vine trailing around them. The outside of the corolla tube is a deep red, and the five curled-back lobes are yellow-green with a pronounced striping. The pistol juts well past the opening, feathery yellow with a white tip. A more zoomed-out view of one of the pinkroot plants, showing the relatively small flowers compared with the large green leaves. The bladelike, sessile leaves sprout from the two foot stalk in opposite pairs at relatively regular intervals. The flowers are so brightly colored, though, that they are hard to miss! They are probably pollinated by hummingbirds.

A close-up of our native Bluebead Lily growing along the Summit Trail in Elk Knob State Park at approximately 5000' above sea level. The only patch I saw in bloom, though there might be more around there that just didn't have any flowers out yet - they're a higher-elevation plant here.
