I wouldn't give in on music. Let them have a stuffed animal. 2! A whole army! They'll grow out of it eventually. Maybe try a projector light to keep them distracted. If they are creeped out by noises around the home try a white noise machine which will help them sleep anyway.

Check everything I am about to say, obviously - But domestic passport centers have urgent travel appointments for expedited passports. There's a fee, you need to get to the passport center, and travel needs to be within the next two weeks. Contact your Congress person for advice/help too.

A helping hand from consular services if you get into trouble abroad is nice too.
