Proud dad, husband, and principal. 2010 MN Teacher of the year. Dedicated to equity and educational justice. Oh, and also #GoPackGo!
A much needed reminder. I lost that battle these last two days as I have tried to keep up with each vengeful act of racism, bigotry, sexism, and xenophobia.

The fight will be long and hard and I have to remind myself of your words to protect my heart and peace so I can help protect our children.

Yes. We received written guidance and have an action plan. We had a presentation for all principals and admin from an immigration law firm that has been helping us prepare to best help out kids, families, and staff.

If you read this far and share my concerns, rest today and be okay in feeling whatever it is you feel. This is who we are as a country…but it doesn’t have to be.

Tomorrow continues the fight for justice and we are in this together.

the Supreme Court has already ruled that a president is above the law and IMMUNE from criminal acts that it perceives is exercising the core powers of the presidency. So he has the power of a king and oligarch all rolled into one.

We even have a plan in place at our schools giving guidance on if ICE comes to our school.

I fear, this time around is going to be so much worse, especially given who he has nominated for cabinet positions and, most importantly,

We had the two families stay at school during school hours because they were so scared to be in their apartments. They were at school during the day and then at different friend’s homes during the night. THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN across the country.

In 2017 when the first ICE insurgency happened, we were providing safe zones in our school for two families whose fathers was picked up for traffic violations (broken taillight and not coming to a full stop at a stop sign) on their way to work and ended up in ICE control.

This is having a direct result at my school & every school across the country. I've had families ask what will happen if they are deported. I have had children ask what will happen to them if their parents are taken while they are at school. Already high mental health needs are increasing even more.

of serious crimes like rape, armed assault, sex trafficking, kidnapping etc. Removing renewals for DACA. Removing Temporary Protected Status from countries 47 who he feels don’t deserve it.

Narrowing Asylum claims to EXCLUDE domestic violence and gang/cartel activity. Expanding expedited removal (deportation) without a hearing or review beyond 100 miles of a US border. Elimination of U Visas - designed to protect undocumented VICTIMS

Kids will be left without a guardian, and more people put in danger. A few things to keep an eye on: Changes to family based immigration laws and protections targeting siblings of citizens, married children of US citizens, parents of US citizens.

from what is actually going to be done to hurt so many of our families and children.

I just was in a presentation from an immigration law firm about some upcoming changes that are expected. These are where families will be ripped apart.
January 20, 2025 at 5:10 PM
The upcoming immigration executive orders will be hideous and they won’t start as mass deportations or internment camps, or repeal of the 14th amendment. Those are fear tactics (as well as the moronic discourse of Canada being the 51st state or taking over Greenland) meant to distract

There was an increase of 700% (The Trevor Project) of youth crises calls after the 2024 election. If you think you do not have LGBTQ+ friends or family, guess what… you do. You just may not have been invited into their lives in that way - now ask yourself why that might be?
January 20, 2025 at 5:10 PM
The attacks on the LGBTQ+ community will be even more fierce because some feel they have permission form the land’s highest office to wave their bigotry like flag of honor. Guess what? They are right. The number of anti LGBTQ+ legislation pending is terrifying.

This time, people knew what they were voting for. This is the hardest part for me to wrap my mind around. PEOPLE KNEW. HE TOLD US. Mass deportation - yay! Vengeance - Sign us up! Take more rights away from women - yes! He repeatedly told us what he wanted to do. AND PEOPLE VOTED FOR IT.
January 20, 2025 at 5:10 PM
In 2016, I was told, don’t worry, it won’t be that bad. Well, a stacked Supreme Court, loss of rights for women, immigrant families torn apart, and millions dead later, it was worse than many had feared.
