Oh Pi have released another AI hat? And it's £130?

Does anyone remember the good ol' days of it being just a small, cheap computer for students?

At £130 you could pick up a used GPU that's likely quicker for your normal PC.

It still surprises me how quick dust can build up on computers.

This is my Radiator after only 3 months. Most of the case has mesh on too to prevent dust getting in, in the first place.

Picked up a few more ZigBee temperature sensors.

Total cost about £30 Inc batteries.

The idea is to have one in each room and average between them for the "house" temperature.

However each sensor has slight deviation already.

Welp, the company I work for has been acquired by a nationwide logistics co.

Not sure if this will be good or bad for me yet, if it's the latter then not really looking forward to having to go job hunting 😫.

That was *joyful*, had to go and pick up the shopping in the snow.

Luckily most of the roads were gritted and we're not far off a main road.

(I cleared more snow off before departing).

Pondering if I might try moving my Game rig to linux again.

Looks like proton has improved further again.

But still doesn't look like full surround audio support, not sure how important that is to me.

And ditching my Ambilight setup.

Well I did test drive a Tesla Model 3 yesterday.

And I didn't like it.

Whilst it has the range and certainly more than enough speed overall it was just a tad underwhelming.

My biggest issues were the lack of dash, just give me a tiny screen with the speed in front of where I'm looking.

I […]

It's that time of year in our household. One of the few films I decided to upgrade to the 4K Copy.

It's also the first that I've actually noticed a significant improvement when side by side.

My theory is that the normal copy is such an old Bluray that it's […]

Had a look at a few car upgrades today.

To my slight frustration, the Tesla M3 is in the lead. My favorite to begin with turned out to be a bit too small.

I hate Musk, and mostly try to avoid Tesla.

However I'm having to look at upgrading to a longer range EV and a lot of those in my budget are Teslas.

There is maybe 1-2 other options at a push. But it's a shame to a certain extent that more others aren't viable due to range / price / features etc.

Resetting up my Tesco's app:

We need to verify you're you, send an SMS or scan your clubcard?

Me: SMS please.

*No SMS seems to arrive*

Me: well I don't have a physical clubcard now because I use the app. So can I order one?

Tesco: to cut back on plastic why not go digital?

Loop in a cycle.

I've been having a few issues with my ZigBee network.

Previously I was just using the cheap Lidl coordinator but decided to upgrade.

At only £30ish picked up this Sonoff Dongle Max, it's POE (but also USB C pwr + WiFi capable) and showed up instantly on my […]

I still really want to move to small form factor for my PC.

This is despite my current case being pretty small. And that ITX components have the additional small tax.

Bit late seeing this, but not sure if I quite believe it.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy5gr4v66wro

"Family spends £4k to power charity Christmas lights".

It looks like it's roughly run for a month, so that works to about 13-15mWh over a month.

Over 31 days that's 483kWh of electric […]

My Zigbee network isn't performing great.

Pondering if I should just move back to using WiFi devices more, or if getting a new Zigbee coordinator might help.

Currently I'm using the Lidl / Silvercrest one.

Interesting debate about use of AI.

A new "Artisanal" bakery specializing in Sourdough and such is using AI to generate promotional media.

There's quite rightly some debate as to if they should be using proper artists. Especially considering that's their USP of proper artisanal bread rather […]

Since when did Mid Year birthday discounts become a thing?

I'm not complaining as handily it means for me I get them at Christmas time. But it just feels odd.

Yay I'm 29.5?

There's the odd glitch with the app I develop for work, and Ideally I need to simulate a terrible internet connection to try and replicate it.

Annoyingly Apple have an excellent tool built into iOS to do this. But there doesn't seem to be for Android. Apparently it's possible on the Simulator […]

Who needs streaming services?

The entirety of Stargate SG1 is only a small 60 dvds or so.

I popped to my local Toolstation to get some bits I ordered via Click & Collect.

One of the bits was missing, yet the order collection notification didn't say it was missing or such.

Not an issue, I can just run to Screwfix next door.

But, the staff member didn't say that it'll be refunded […]

Still pondering building a micro cluster to learn on.

But pricing on used hardware is rocketing, primarily even RAM.

£100 for 48GB (3x16GB) even with slow sticks.

My Pixel 7A was unfortunately falling apart slightly, whilst I had glued the back on a couple of times it doesn't seem to last.

I decided to pick up a Pixel 9A as a small upgrade.

Honestly it's a rather odd feeling in the hand, it partly feels worse than the 7A as it's design is very iPhone […]

It's not until your home automation server goes down that you realize how much runs through it and that you'd be buggered.

Maybe I need to work on a backup system.
December 3, 2025 at 8:43 AM
Bugger, I didn't set my home server to reboot after AC Loss apparently. Even worse I can't seem to find the mac address for it to try wake on lan.

We've just had a short power cut but it's too late to go and reboot it in the garage.

Guess I need to improve that.
