(Thanks, yes @pfriedling.bsky.social also shared. Makes much more sense now! But, just as a friendly reader response criticism, the caption in your figure could probably better explain that this is a counterfactual/relative analysis. i.e. sinks are actually in net terms still growing, on average).

Aha! That definitely explains it. Thanks!

So, is it correct to interpret he first two as "how much more or less CO2 the ocean and land sinks sequestered each year as a result of climate change"?

@eroston.bsky.social, can you explain what these charts are intended to show? In terms of the 'Atmosphere' chart... an 8.34ppm increase in 2023?! What am I looking at?
November 13, 2025 at 3:06 PM
I've just spent way too long trying to reconcile this chart from Bloomberg (first image) about Carbon Sinks (in an article by @eroston.bsky.social) with the latest GCP report (2nd image; lead author @pfriedling.bsky.social) and CT's analysis of GCP data (third image). I can't. Something's way off🤷‍♂️

Climate skeptics who have been awful loud about how Arctic Sea Ice extent levels are 'stabilizing' over the last decade sure are quiet about the Land Sink over this same time period.

Is this "green growth"?

Seeing so much misinformation out there related to solar geomagnetic storms... Seemed like a good opportunity to write about another common bit of misinformation - the myth that modern global warming is being caused by the sun (TL;DR it's NOT the sun, it's us). Link in next post...

Impossible to pick just one picture from tonight’s northern lights show, but this one stood out as it got so bright that the snow was glowing pink🤩

Since everyone has thoughts™️ on the Gates memo… here’s my addition (basically addressing why skeptics are celebrating it and climate scientists are lukewarm about it when it is fully in support of continued efforts at decarbonization. theconversation.com/why-bill-gat...

" “There's still the climate issue,” said Fernando Maximiliano, coffee market intelligence manager at financial-services network StoneX. “These tariffs, they're an additional layer, but we can't ignore the main, structural factor, which is the tighter supply.” "
