I figured today was as good a day as any to introduce myself over here!

My lab combines stem cell models and genome engineering to study how the interactions between genes and environments contributes to brain disease. The only thing I find more rewarding than scientific discovery is mentoring…

Talan and colleagues’ educational intervention followed a mastery training model and included a short prereading assignment and instructional video, followed by serial 20-minute 1:1 bedside teaching sessions with ACCE faculty (9). During these sessions, fellows scanned live patients with direct supervision, both via physical probe manipulation and verbal feedback. The amount of coaching decreased over time as independence was achieved, with the ultimate number of required sessions depending on fellow progress and averaging 4.5 sessions (or 90 min of instruction) per fellow. Competency to a minimum standard was ensured by demonstrating that fellow measurements were within 20% of simultaneously performed exams by ACCE faculty. Notably, only 7 out of 11 fellows achieved adequate competency and were allowed to participate in the comparison with formal echocardiography-derived measurements. This was primarily due to the fellows running out of time during their ICU rotation, and presumably, with further instruction, they too would have eventually qualified.

I have been a big proponent of 15 minutes of writing per day- especially for busy clinical academicians

as laid out in the book "How to write a lot" (a great and quick read)

We suffer from the idea that we need chunks of time to write

So with this 🧵 I will put my money where my mouth is

Communication is not the same as clicks.
“the quantified feedback provided by social-media platforms is both seductive and addictive. So many […] have been tricked by ever-increasing view counts into thinking that they’re communicating better — while, on an ecosystem level, it’s clear that our status and capacity has been diminishing…”
