My recent photobook haul. I’ve loved spending more time on Substack! Such a refreshing space to talk about photography and connect with fellow creatives/writers.

Still thinking about this movie two days later… by far my favorite from Sean Baker. Just absolutely brilliant.

I named my newsletter “Sketchbook” because my relationship with photography, especially street photography, feels like sketching. It’s a constant experiment and practice, hoping you’ll stumble onto something great eventually.

Yo I want to photograph the #Oscars. Idk how I’m going to do that, or how long it will take, but I am speaking it into existence rn.

In my latest newsletter, I wrote about using time as an editor and why we often need to distance ourselves from the work we make to view it in an objective way!

I would love it if you went to the link below and subscribed! 🫶📷

A new post from the newsletter is going out tomorrow afternoon and I’m really passionate about this particular topic. It was a massive lesson that I learned 5/6 years ago and I think I’ve been a better photographer ever since. ✌️

I also talk briefly about this amazing book!

If you missed my VSCO Creator Session last month, it's now available on YouTube!

I am still so thankful for the opportunity to share my story and discuss my work and street photography.

It’s a weird time in Charleston right now. Summer vacations are over, college is about to be back, and it’s overwhelmingly hot. The streets are pretty quiet. Despite that, I’m really excited about the photographs in this week’s Sunday Scaries. https://newsletter.ryanbelk.com/p/sunday-scaries-003

Happy world photography day!! This medium means everything to me. I don’t know where I’d be or what I’d be doing if I never had a camera put in my hand. But I am so thankful for the opportunity to make pictures every single day! 🥹🫶📷

Why do we make photographs? Is it to preserve a moment? Is it to understand yourself and how you see the world? Or is it simply because we have to? I talked about this and shared a few other photographers' perspectives in my newsletter on Wednesday night: newsletter.ryanbelk.com
