A tighter-crop version, which I think works better.

There will be signs that I have been to the Azores.

The ruins of this hotel have become an attraction in of itself, attracting visitors to (on a clear day) get an unrivalled view of the crater and lakes. It's got to the point where organised quad-bike tours of the lake include a stop off at the hotel.

Laden with more debt than it could repay, the hotel was closed and was swiftly abandoned. Anything valuable was taken, and every window was smashed. A guard was hired by the islands' government until 2010, when the money for his salary ran out.

Since then, it's been open season.

Azores Brutalism | Monte Palace Hotel.

Built in the right place at the wrong time, the Monte Palace Hotel operated for just 18 months in the late 80s at the rim of the crater of the Sete Cidades Massif, overlooking the crater lakes.

In light of the new Universal Studios park being confirmed, I was reminded I traipsed through that cold Bedfordshire field with a friend around this time last year.

More observations:

The US embassy is hideous.
This pool is sketchy.

A beautiful day for photos yesterday in Vauxhall.

What an bizarre and interesting place it has become. The architects of these new developments seemed to have adopted a principal of 'interrupt every vertical'.

A Guide To Modern Living - Boxing Day 2024

Low mist and excessive food intake necessitated a walk today - so I made my first photographs around the estate in about a year. It was really good to get out.

I've always tried to make my photography fairly visually objective - not embellishing things where I can. I'm finding it hard to do that with anything I make in Cornwall, though.

I've been wanting to create a body of work around the mining landscape of the place where I grew up. It's yet another attempt for me to create a body of work down there. It's a rugged place, littered with ruins from pre-history right through to the 20th century.

In September, I was at last able to take my pinsta pinhole camera down to Cornwall. Something I'd wanted to do for a very long time.

Some photographs to familiarise myself with a
#10x8 camera at work, which I'd reconstructed some time in the past. The light leaks were caused by my placing the backboard on upside down, but I like the effect they create.

We stayed beside the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, which is built at the end of Turia Gardens: the riverbed of previous route of the River Turia.

I'd wanted to see this place for years, and to have the chance to wander around and see something by Calatrava that I could actually photograph.

The whole city is a bit of a dream for any fan of #modernist #architecture. Having been destroyed in WWII, the city centre was rebuilt in the 1950s according to plans set out by Sir Patrick Abercrombie, with some degree of controversy.

The tower has sat abandoned since 2015, and it is certainly looking worse for wear. Having studied at school and college here from 2010 to 2017, I'm very familiar with the building and the city, so I'm glad to hear it's going to be brought back into use.
