Per Hokama (1995), the word is attested in Haedong Jegukki as /kʰa.u.ɾu (sic).ɕi.ɕi/ <카우루시시>.

Yonaguni m̀má ~ m̀pá "opposite" (from Ikema 2003 which contains inaccurate accent data) may be related, if it is not derived from pR *[u]-ma "right here".

Igarashi's JR-COGNATES and UniCog reconstructs pR *pairi; the latter has no information regarding its etymology.

Konkōkenshū says 〈o-fairi: (concerns) vinegar〉. Haedong Jegukki just has /sɨu/, cognate of pR *su B "vinegar"; these are mentioned in Hokama (1995).
