I don't think anybody was concerned with your personal beliefs, this was a conversation about whether or not the left is pushing hysterical pseudo-science comparable to the right. I pointed out how the examples given were liberal (centrist) and right-wing movements rather than progressive ones.

They don't care about the scientific method or the results of any study. It's always subject to being ignored or forgotten when they feel that their privilege is being threatened. The difference between left and liberal is whether or not your are willing to challenge the status quo.

Both, let's use gender affirming care as an example. Influential figures in the Democratic party openly questioning whether they should be advocating for trans people's right to access medical procedures they need, just because they think it might have contributed to losing an election.

Liberals are also guilty of denying science when they think it might affect their chances of getting elected.

I don't expect them to see themselves as far right. I expect them to identify as liberal, as was the implication of my original comment. I can give you an anecdote as well of you'd like. My mom has been deep in both of these communities for decades and is a lifelong republican.

Far-left movements that are based on science are constantly subjected to intentional misrepresentation and sensationalism by the media. That's a much more tangible problem than the idea that leftists make hysterical arguements.

I agree with most of what you have said, but I've still seen no real examples of what y'all are talking about. Crunchy granolas and anti-vaxxers have always been spurred on primarily by the right.

Congratulations

Lol those examples are all strongly associated with liberal and right-wing demographics. The science that the far-left gets criticized for in the general public is all stuff that's true but people don't wanna listen (gender affirming care, abortion and contraception, climate change, etc)

No data on Rashida Tlaib or Ilhan Omar. But they made sure to make room for Stephen A. Smith.

I tell myself that I'm just really good at it and everyone else is doing it wrong.

The point of my reply is to hold people to a standard when they represent an idea that they are arguing against. I could easily accuse the op of a "red herring" if I wanted. But I'd rather actually talk about the ideas themselves than use logical fallacies as trump cards just to win the debate.

Sorry for making you feel bad buddy.

Idk why you assumed that I'm a card carrying member of any marxist organization. At no point have I said that I think communism is that best system available. I'm just calling out a misuse of words.

The only problem that I had with the original post that I was replying to was that they were conflating two words that have different definitions. That is wrong in principle and deserves to be called out every time. We can't have intellectually honest debates if we don't use words properly.

You are presenting China's system as the objectively correct definition of communism when it is only one of many different instances that have all worked out very differently. No sane person is suggesting that we copy China 1 to 1. Acting like this is the case makes you either dishonest or ignorant.
March 31, 2025 at 6:08 AM
Ah yes... the mature adult has presented a Wikipedia article as proof. Surely this will convince everyone that you have a measured arguement.

The people that produce the goods. That's like... the fundamental principle of the whole thing.
March 31, 2025 at 5:46 AM
Still waiting for the definition.
March 31, 2025 at 5:09 AM
Do you know the definition of the word "communism"?
March 31, 2025 at 4:44 AM
Why do y'all keep using the word communism when you are actually talking about authoritarianism?
March 31, 2025 at 3:59 AM
I was referring to the movies listed in OP's post, not all of the nominees

The only one that's necessary to watch is Anora. The others aren't very impactful even though they are well-made. Except Emilia Perez, fuck that one.

The absence of a background color to add contrast makes some parts of it hard to find and hard to read when the camera pans over something lighter colored. Idk why they decided to do this experiment during the super bowl of all games.
