Today we remember 25378 Private William Fry. He was just 21 years old when he died of wounds on 5th September 1918. He is buried in Varennes Military Cemetery in France.

Lt Col A J H Bowen DSO, 2nd Mons, was wounded twice in the head and twice in the body, but "continued to command with conspicuous ability” earning himself the DSO. Three times MID and later awarded a bar to his DSO. Killed in action 2/3/17, aged 31. He is buried at Guard’s Cemetery, Combles. #WW1

13246 Private Levi Amos Lockyer, 1st Battalion, The Welsh Regiment, KIA 25 May 1915. Pte. Lockyer was just 18 years old when he was killed during the Second Battle of Ypres. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.

The Military Medal citation for 4197553 Private Frederick Stanley Grove, Welch Regiment. Shortly after his heroics at Croce, Pte Grove was transferred to the Hampshire Regiment. He died of wounds in Italy on the 26th November, 1944 and is buried at Cesena War Cemetery. He was 26 years old. #WW2

Today we remember 23217 Private William Howell of the 16th (Cardiff Pals) Battalion, Welsh Regiment. Pte Howell was killed in action on July 7th 1916 at Mametz Wood. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

Memorial card for 13125 Private Thomas Price, 2nd Battalion, South Wales Borderers. Private Price was killed in action on January 7th, 1916 at Cape Helles, Gallipoli. Pte Price is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. He was 33 years old.

Here’s a lovely photograph of 4080467 Private Wilfred Lewis Green, 3rd Bn, Monmouthshire Regiment. Pte Green was seriously wounded during the liberation of Holland and died on 24th September 1944. He is buried at Mierlo War Cemetery in the Netherlands. He was 28 years old. #WW2 #LestWeForget

Here’s a moving poem from the memorial card of 22515 Company Sergeant Major Henry Hopkins of the 13th Battalion, Welsh Regiment. Coy Sgt Maj Hopkins was killed in action on May 18th, 1916, at Festubert, France. He is buried in Rue-Du-Bacquerot Graveyard, Laventie.

7711 QM Sgt John Burnette Cownie, 2nd Bn, Welsh Reg. KIA 29/10/14 Gheluveldt, Belgium. He died whilst attempting to take out an enemy machine gun. Described as “a splendid fellow, as plucky as you make them and a very fine leader.” He is buried at Divisional Collecting Post Cemetery. #LestWeForget

Today we #remember 13951 Private Thomas James of the 2nd Bn, South Wales Borderers. Pte James fought in the Boer War in 1900 and re-enlisted on the outbreak of #WW1. He died of wounds on the 3rd July 1915 at Gallipoli and was buried at sea. He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial.

#BlackandWhiteWednesday – photograph of Sergeant Henry Arthur William Cook, 2nd Battalion, Welsh Regiment. Sgt Cook was killed in action on 9th May 1915, aged 30. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial in France.

This memorial card commemorates Private Frank Bradshaw, who served with the South Wales Borderers and was killed in action on 26 September 1914. He is buried in Vendresse British Cemetery on the Aisne, France.

Today we remember 1508016 Sergeant William (Bill) Smith, 2nd Battalion, Monmouthshire Regiment, who was killed in action on August 19th 1944. Sgt Smith had recently married and was 26 years old. He is buried in Banneveille-La-Campagne War Cemetery, in the Calvados region of France.

#LestWeForget 63070 Pte Fred Leah killed in action aged just 19. Fred was fighting in Cambrai in early 1918 with the 9th Bn of the Welsh Regiment. He was killed in action on January 15th, 1918, & is buried at the Fifteen Ravine British Cemetery in Villers-Plouich, Northern France.

Letter written by 9809 Pte LLewellyn Napper, 2nd Bn, SWB, from Tientsin, China, 1913. He writes that he wishes to be “home in dear old Wales again”. In 1914, Pte Napper fought at Tsingtao and then at Gallipoli, where he was killed in action on May 14 1915. He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial.

3909865 Sgt George Rowland Jones, 2nd Bn, SWB, landed in Normandy on D-Day and was wounded in action. He was sent home to recover, rejoining his battalion in France. On Sept 10th 1944 Sgt Jones was again wounded and died on September 11th. He was 26. Buried in Ste. Marie Cemetery, Le Havre. #WW2

Today we remember 11443 Private Alfred Corbett Williams, 1st Battalion, South Wales Borderers. Alfred, from Merthyr Tydfil, was just 18 years old when he was killed near Bethune, in France. He is buried in Cambrin Military Cemetery.

Memorial scroll of 39850 Pte Arthur Eric Willshire MM, 5th Bn, SWB. Pte Willshire was awarded the MM for helping a wounded man during a battle & risking his own life to take him water. He was killed on 8/5/18 when the barn he was sleeping in with the rest of his platoon was shelled. He was 26.

Capt. J. Gwyther Jones (2nd from rt), 18th (Bantam) Bn, Welsh Reg & officers in a trench near Bourlon Wood, Nov 1917. Gwyther Jones was wounded during the attack on the Wood & the losses suffered were so severe that the battalion was officially declared to have “ceased to exist” on November 26th.
