Also his throwaway line about how the US' strong economy provides greater wealth to more people doesn't exactly square up with poverty rates relative to other developed nations. But sure "innovation and growth" are strong in the US.

I'm not sure I find his analysis cogent in absence of the fact, as you say, Britain's economy is a mess particularly post Brexit. Social democracies rely on strong productive economies. I don't think the tax and spend regime is the cause of Britain's economic as much as a symptom of stagnation.
