Why stop with changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico? What about New Mexico? The Spanish named Florida five hundred years ago; isn’t it about time we gave Florida an American name? Might as well rename Texas, Arizona, Colorado and California while we’re at it.

In 1975 Alaska petitioned to call the mountain Denali to reflect the local and native name, but the State of Ohio, home of McKinley, managed to block it for years. Now Ohio has triumphed again it seems.
