Writer, movie critic, ND, proud progressive and professional weirdo. Watching things on television that are different from what's happening. All opinions are my own.
It's funny; I'm a movie critic and my last job could be legitimately categorized as "professional Star Wars expert." I pointedly held my tongue during the recent Star Wars ranking trend on Bluesky for the exact reasons you're describing.

🎯💯 Star Wars is really its own genre at this point: a gigantic sandbox for all kinds of storytelling. People can celebrate that and play in it, or they can decide which piles of sand they don't like. One of those options is much more fun.

Here's hoping. 🤞 The rise of the internet feels like the big difference there? Maybe millennials have been exposed to more perspectives and POVs from there, especially in the early days when it was less weaponized? I'm speculating, but it would explain the shift.

Some of it's simply middle age. People turn 40 and enough of them have the nice job and the decent bank account to start thinking the system isn't so bad. (I'm Gen-X and I see this in my peer group reasonably often. Other factors too, of course, but this often gets overlooked.)

I remember Beyonce kind of lifting the third film on her shoulders and carrying it across the finish line.

I think she's trying to get ahead of something; a very prominent rat deserting the sinking ship.

Admittedly, "I hide moonshine in the woods" is on-brand.
