Approximately Five-ish years to sort of shake off the hangover and start to stumble out of the ditch so to speak. All the while, everyone demands you get over it without really helping you heal.

had a psychiatrist tell me that when it comes to life altering, gut punch when you think about it for the rest of your life, type trauma that three years is about how long it takes for your nervous system to... ( How do I put this....) Gasp it's next breath ?

When it is too cold outside for our normal walks, I toss some kibble into Doug's toy baskets for some nose/brain work. The act of sniffing and finding food releases happy, calming endorphins. After 15 mins he was ready to settle down for his massage and promptly fell asleep.
