Because we deserve to be well in the practice of surgery.

Let’s make sure everyone has that professional safety net, and a fair chance to build/maintain their #reputationcapital. 7/7

Start small:
💬 Check in on the new attending after a rough case.
🧩 Offer perspective before judgment.
🫂 If you are the new or late career attending - ask for peer support, for skilled assist with complex cases. 6/7

If you’ve ever thought:

“I wish someone had stepped in for me back then…”
“I wish I hadn’t had to learn that lesson the hard way…”

That’s your cue.
Be the peer support to someone that you wish you’d had. Share your reputation capital with someone else. 5/7

The protection that Reputation Capital offers isn’t just personal, it’s cultural.
A healthy workplace ⬆️ it for those who have less.
It’s built through education, mentorship, & leadership that makes asking for help a sign of strength, not weakness. 💪 4/7

That buffer has a name: Protective Equity. I think of it as Reputation Capital for surgeons.

It’s the professional safety net built from:
🏥 Showing that you can do cases safely
🫂Mentors / peers who have your back

Without it, you walk the tightrope alone. 3/7

Early career? You’re still building credibility and a track record.
Late career? Are they still sharp? Still as safe as they once were?

In both seasons, the margin for error feels paper-thin.
And if you’re from a non-dominant group? The buffer is thinner still. 2/7

This whole topic is proof of how society has lost the plot. The premise that one gender can ruin a workplace - I mean where to even start at debunking that? I invite the orig authors to shadow a woman surgeon or nurse for a day.

This book reframes conflict not as something to win or avoid, but to hold.

Conflict tolerance isn’t a soft skill, it’s a core skill in healthcare today.
