The US had a lot of options to cite justification for this (Guaido, Gonzalez, maybe?), so it is really telling that Rubio is talking about the 2020 NY charges - "US law is the only law that matters and Trump makes US law". The brazenness and hypocrisy is the point.

As an Englishman, the idea of non-elected official positions going to people who register as members of political parties is absolutely bizarre to me. The US' two party system is the root of a lot of evils.
