I just saw the First Pan-African Cultural Festival (1969). All I could think about was, how our leaders don’t understand our history and the importance of preserving our culture. But I am inspired. I have many things to say, to write, and to share. So help me God!

Today, I am celebrating Professor Oyeronke Oyewumi for her intellectual contributions to the study of women and gender in Africa.

It feels bittersweet to hear about her retirement from academia. I am excited to see the amazing things she will do next.

Thank you, Professor Oyeronke Oyewumi!

I thought I escaped the cold weather in New York, but Los Angeles didn’t have much sun either. LA folks say it isn’t normal. Most are, however, grateful for the rain due to the wildfires. I am grateful for the brilliance of the folks who gathered.

So glad that one of my former professors, a prolific writer found me worthy of endorsing his book, The Funk Movement: Music, Culture, and Politics.
