This horribleness interfered with my first listen to an album I only listen to one month per year. Cry me a river, I suppose, but is it too much to ask that I just listen to songs as the were intended to be heard?

Final numbers are nowhere near this close but still a great showing from Behn

Oh, they do. They do. I have a group of aunts and uncles who have never learned how to talk about the weather or their pets, but boy do they always have some other things to say.

Having lived with a beloved cat who fairly regularly refused to use the litter box, I can attest that ammonia unfortunately does not evaporate.

Kissing is fine. Maybe wear some pants?

Went to see a band I like that happened to be playing in a clearly more youth-centric neighborhood, completely alone. All good. Spent too much money in their shops. Frankly it looked like paradise.

I was there for the first time for a conference in the spring. 43 year old woman. Walked all over downtown, alone, night day, didn’t matter. Went to the arboretum and walked around in the woods early in the morning before the ranger stations or whatever were open, no problem.

Tell that to my bank account after I went to a conference there last spring. I took a few too many shopping breaks.

I am here for this.

One of the things that has carried me through the last ~9 years is watching people love shit. Any shit. I watch people love their kids, love plants, love chameleons, love making knives, embroidery, running, building backyard kilns to fire pottery. ANYTHING. Those people are all OK.

A little complicated here. Yes to the insurance coverage, but they walked back their previous recommendation for who should receive the vaccine and instead said that individuals should decide with their physicians. Unclear if pharmacies can administer. Not as bad as it could have been.

If you're talking about kid watches a screen for 20 minutes while parent does necessary tasks and this results in a less stressed environment, it might be better than the alternative.
September 17, 2025 at 6:13 PM
A lot of this really depends on what exactly is happening with the screen, combined with what happens if there is no screen. If you're talking about kid watching a screen with no meaningful human interaction for hours, sure, bad.

I just paid $12 in tariffs on a $50 t shirt I bought from a British band. I guess I should only be a fan of American Brit-pop bands?

Once, I took my newborn daughter to meet my mother's cousin and her husband. The husband sat in a chair ranting about how Black Lives Matter was a terrorist org. (TV was not even on - his rang was apropos of nothing I could find.) I stopped talking to him very shortly after that.

The ones I have not cut off will still say absolutely wild and sometimes abhorrent things, but if I ask them to stop they will do so. (Me: "Hey, we both know we're not going to agree here, so let's just stop before it gets too heated." Them: "Yeah, let's stop. I love you.") It's not the "politics."

Adding to the chorus of people confirming your hypothesis here. I have many conservative family members, many with batshit/non-reality-based opinions. The ones I cut off will not talk about anything else, and also lose their minds if you do anything other than quietly listen while they rant.

This! I have *a lot* of Conservatives and Trump voters (close but not complete overlap there) in my family. The ones I have cut off contact with *will not* stop talking about their political obsessions, even when asked directly. They also lose their shit immediately if a liberal brings something up

The irony of Fetterman accusing Mamdani of not being a Democrat is wild.

Her parents own a furniture shop in my home town called Weisshouse and I curse it each time I go by it.

Hey, that was 15-20 minutes more honest than some I've seen.
