I did not but I DID get in the hired rowing boat that he insisted we take on the river so he could demonstrate his rowing. He brought the book with us, obviously.

I once went on a first date with a bloke who was carrying - not in a bag, not in his pocket, carrying in his hand - a hardback copy of Lady Windermere's Fan. He kept opening and reading bits mid-date. Standards are slipping.

Honestly, I can sort of see the appeal? It's dainty! Also this was 1942 so I assume that a mars represented like six months' rationing points
