China, famously, had its One China Policy that Xi Jinping abandoned as population growth slowed. He's not alone: In 1974, US National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger was worried about the impact on America of a surge in population in developing nations.

Demographic transition has been present at major hinge points in history, including the industrial revolution, and may even have been the decisive element. So there's no cause for panic.
