Sunday started at 6.30am with some work, urgent deadlines that can't wait.

But sitting on the sofa under a blanket reading science, drinking tea, listening to sublime classical music on DR with a cat purring away next to me, turns out to be actually really nice.

I should do this more often.

I am immensely amused by husband's gleeful handing out sweets to assorted neighbourhood kids ranging from about 4 to 16 years of age.
Hard to be sure who is having a better time. And isn't that what life is all about?
Happy Halloween

The incredible tragedy for #ArcticScience of NOAA shutting down their #methane monitoring data. 5th May 2025 is the last data we'll ever get.

Do we have to see the consequences before we start believing them? Torben Røjle Christensen is talking about #Arctic methane but it could be almost anything #Climate. ("Fossil fuels: the mother of all problems")

The ace Sofia Ribeiro on lessons from Holocene climate for the Arctic in the future
We also cited her paper in our recent #Greenlandification article because we can learn so much about the coming Antarctic too.

A concrete case study from Svendborg Kommune is fascinating to follow.

It's crucial to be open and honest about what we do and don't know. Use lots of different ways to talk to and connect with different groups.

If you are planning anything in Denmark that is more long term than about 5 years, then you should definitely be using the Climate Atlas to check your climate adaptation impacts...

I wrote about this last year too...

My colleague Lea Poropat is talking about how we integrate this data into the Danish climate atlas...

How do we get to #ClimateServices in the atlas, based on IPCC, local understanding and storm surges.. #NCKF25

2nd day of the #NCKF25 symposium and the plenary is all about the #SeaLevelRise.
This is the downstream part of our job as glaciologists and it's important to understand how the projections will, can and should be used...

🚨 New @oceaniceeu.bsky.social preprint🚨 why has Antarctica stopped (net) losing mass, in spite of increased discharge?
Declining sea ice is part of the answer but increasingly heavy and frequent atmospheric rivers are most important factor.

Lots of important subtleties:

Have picked around 120kg of apples from a single tree (variety is Pigeon - smallish, red, good keepers, often used at Christmas in Denmark), but no way we'll manage to eat them all before they go bad. Your suggestions for recipes with apples?

One of the big successes we had with @oceaniceeu.bsky.social was bringing in our friends at NASC in #Ukraine. Their deployment of floats in Bransfield strait closed one of our big gaps and now we're seeing the data... It's pretty interesting
