Just another defector from the bird app....

Retired "bad-ass level tech support" (according to my son). News junkie. Voracious reader of mysteries and hard scifi.
I was today years old when I learned that using em-dashes – like these – is considered a telltale sign of ChatGPT writing. Ditto for semicolons; proper punctuation seems to be a thing of the past.

I used both of them before desktop computers were even considered a normal thing.

This is very sad. Quote from the article shared below:

“Only 16 percent of Americans age 15 and over read for leisure every day in 2023, according to a study..”

So many people are missing the joy of immersing themselves in a world outside their own.

Why so few Americans read for pleasure
The decline in Americans’ leisure reading comes as attention spans are shrinking and print book sales are in decline.

Those who can claim the deduction for no tax on OT: the IRS announced that employers will not have to report this amount on your 2025 W-2 form. You will need to keep your own records for this. The best proof would be paystubs showing regular & OT hours and rates. (1 of 4)

I subscribe to the IRS Newswire, and received this. These notices are strictly for tax related information and regulatory notices.

So it angers me that this agency is following in the steps of the SSA and using propaganda like “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” when that is NOT the bill title.

Okay, excuse me for having a geek moment here..

One of my all time favorite authors @gregegansf.bsky.social has done this for the second time on something I posted.

Pardon me while I sit here and giggle madly 😁

I just got an email from the SSA with the subject "Social Security Applauds Passage of Legislation Providing Historic Tax Relief for Seniors"

Attached is a graphic of the email content.

This is disgusting. I have a SS account for managing my SS, not for receiving political messages.

Ditto here. I have tried many times over the years, and get ignored every. single. time.

#Hawley #Schmitt
Neither of my senators give a single, solitary fuck what any of their constituents have to say.

#Fetterman #McCormick
If there was ever a time to call your Senator, this is it.

Voting has begun on the GOP plan to cut off health care for working-class Americans and slash taxes for the wealthiest.

Heads up, folks – this scam is now hitting emails.

Just keep in mind that the SSA will never ask you to open an attachment on any of their emails. You always have to log into your SS account to do anything or get any information.

Bad job story time!

At my worst job, one of my duties was to empty trash cans and put in a new trash bag. One day my bosses can had nothing visible in it so I left it alone.

The next day I was treated to a screaming fit because it wasn’t changed. She had put ONE HAIR in it. Deliberately.

@malcolmnance.bsky.social This is awful. Our military academies are now subject to people who are not sane or stable, nor do most of them have any clue about what service means.

This suit was filed by AG Schmitt before he became senator & pushed on by AG Bailey enthusiastically.

At the same time, Schmitt also filed lawsuits to prohibit mandatory masking in schools.

So he sued China for hoarding masks that he also sued schools for requiring.

This is the text of the message I just sent to my US Senators and US State Rep. As I live in a deep red state I don't know how much good it will do, but at least they know my opinion:

We have:

A president ignoring federal laws & claiming the right to take over other countries

Election deniers holding high office

Tech kids without security checks messing with a federal payment system they can’t possibly understand

What is happening to our country? Will it survive?

Sen. Eric Schmitt made no secret of his support for RFK. And, as usual, Sen. Josh Hawley didn't even address the subject of my contact email...just the usual "your perspective is important to me". We all know what that means.

This is awful. In my state, about 9% of kids entering school are not getting the typical vaccinations. I know from personal experience that a lot of parents believe the conspiracy theories about vaccines. I recently parted ways with my bro-in-law over this:

I remember the middle of the Cold War period. I was young but it made a big impression on me. Tensions were high worldwide, and people were fearful of what could happen.

Maybe I am wrong, but our current time seems to have the same feel. The world seems to be on a precipice…. 😱

This is the time of year I make my annual donations, and I am curious – do you have regular places that you donate to each year, other than those who give in their local church?

I don’t have a lot of money but I do support a few organizations annually. How about you?
