Trump’s aesthetic (the Oval Office “upgrade,” for example) is Scarface and Boogie Nights. I love both films. But their aesthetic had a particular meaning in the context of the films.

End of summer tomato glut! We had no tomatoes in July, August, and September because of the heat. And now they’re hurrying to offer us more deliciousness. The green ones I took in to ripen because we had a frost warning on Saturday night.

A brilliant novel. It shares many themes and forms with Never Let Me Go and Remains of the Day: a realist narrative but a narrator that does not fully understand their family or origins; devotion to service to compensate for that incomplete knowledge, at the expense of following one's desires.

I have mostly avoided the Trumpfest today but I turned on the radio this evening to hear him sounding off about windmills causing whales to die. Unhinged. Also, do you know what's spooky: my iPhone recognized that "Trumpfest" meant the inauguration and kept trying to add it to my calendar.
