The Demo for PHASE ZERO is right up your alley Pat if you haven't checked it out already. It's short, sweet, and an absolutely excellent vertical slice of Classic RE-style survival horror. Would highly recommend playing it to put the final game on the radar as well.

Shulva is definitely a wonderful level, I agree, but I also think that the open parts of Leyndell have a purpose in contrasting with the sewers below and in highlighting how it really is a fully realized city in a way that From hadn't quite managed to fit together before.

I'd argue that Shaded Castle would have been a pretty good small dungeon if it didn't have a grace placed every five feet, and Leyndell is the best execution of the Anor Londo concept they have ever done. Raya Lucaria is also solid, and the Ruined Precipice to Altus is peak spelunking vibes to me.
