This protest unfortunately will coincide with a deposition for me, but it's really important and I hope legislators who care about public defense in Massachusetts will pay attention. Our system can't keep working unless pay goes up, especially at the district court level.

Typical urban wildlife on my run by the Charles yesterday: cormorants, black-crowned night heron, baby mallards. #birds

Good day for urban wildlife on my run.

For Boston area people, as of yesterday the Esplanade is crawling with baby geese.

Beautiful day and time of year to be outside in New England.

Did my long run yesterday, out to the Beaver Brook North Reservation. It's beautiful and pretty city-adjacent! (And a bit spooky and sad, between the Met-Fern Cemetery and the Metropolitan Hospital.)

Took some pictures on my run to settle a dispute about whether I could possibly have tree pollen allergies in March. It's nice to see some concrete evidence of Spring!

In Fall River for a case and was not prepared for this to be the closest coffee shop to the courthouse (or for how much of this town is axe murder themed in general)

Today's run was initially in the pleasant drizzle, but then it became the much less pleasant actual rain. I enjoy the fog though--Fresh Pond looks snowy here but it's all mist.

Beautiful foggy morning by the Charles.

Run today by the beautiful Charles. It's a color photo but looks almost black and white.

Massachusetts SJC this morning with an interesting search/seizure decision: warrant is not sufficiently particularized where warrant and affidavit say defendant is selling "narcotics" but don't specify what drug. (cc @orinkerr.bsky.social)

Yesterday's #CambMA run took me by Fresh Pond and the Charles; beautiful in the fog.

MA SJC rules the show cause hearings in high profile brothel case will be public, but media won't get complaint applications before hearing, and in future defendants will have an opportunity to be heard before hearings are opened to public. 👀

Going forward in Massachusetts, engagement rings are returned to the giver if it's broken off:

I very much understand why people are upset about the Weinstein appeal. But blame prosecutors, who put in reams of propensity evidence, and the trial court, which let them, not the appellate court. Reading the decision and I think this is plainly the right result.

Can I just note that it's still February, and a) I am still picking fresh herbs from my garden, and b) I am pretty sure at least one allergy tree is beginning to bloom? Says everything about the winter in Massachusetts this year.

The FACTS in today's MA Appeals Court decision!
