I'm so glad!! Please excuse the ramble, I'm happy it was a bit helpful though.
I wish you all the best with these feelings. It's super difficult when it all feeds into real bills and career decisions.

I think everyone deserves to seek out resonance. I also believe that most people have a form of this exchange in their lives. Art is just one of them.
This sounds weird but: I believe all of these exchanges matter, because in a way, resonance is life.

I believe that connection is some of the most powerful stuff out there.
As a quite disconnected person, art is my way of expressing my humanity, causing tiny ripples in people's lives. Whenever my art resonates, I enjoy the echo and gifts I receive back.

I understand.
I don't know if this is useful to you, but to give an example: the purpose of my art is to communicate with like-minded people — to create resonance.
I like to send people the emotions I'm feeling, the stories I'm thinking about — it's a gift of connection in this strange world.

Internalising that art is communication gave me a big push out of burnout, but it also deepened the dissonance I suffer every time I work a gig I don't care about.

Making any art at all is so hard. Making someone else's art is both draining and adds massive creative debt.

If I wasn't currently on a path to work on my own art full-time I would likely throw the towel and go back to uni.

I found that I need to believe in my art (even/especially if it's personal and foolish), and that sustainable, healthy work is personal work.

I'm pushing to pay my bills this way.
