Antler comb with early attestation of the bridge from Pokerface, probably dating to c.800–1000 CE, found in a grave at Vibble, Västerhejde Socken, Gotland, Sweden, now in the Historiska Museet in Stockholm. #medievalsky #saturdayshitposting

Here is what I hope is a slightly stricter ed. & trans. from a forthcoming article, + screenshot of the margin of St Gallen Stiftsbibliothek MS 904 p. 112

There was no Norway in c.AD845 when the poem was written, probably at Bangor, Nendrum or Movilla, best to leave Lothlind/Laithlind untranslated.

Nobody does guidebooks like Cadw. Preparing for a trip to Cymru (Wales) next month.

From an add on the Book of Faces. I should hope so: smart shampoo is among the last things we might need.

2024 in finished non-work #books.

It took most of my spare time, being #straightedge, helped by poor health, travelling and living away from home a lot.

Not meant to guilt those who've had slower years reading wise, I've had plenty of those.

Lanny was the pick of the bunch this year.

Eleven years since I gave in to male pattern baldness. That's me in the centre in the first photo with Satan's Arse and right in the second photo with Belinus.

Eleven years ago this evening. It wasn't my night, alas.

#books haul from my visit to Leiden and Rotterdam for a fantastic conference on the #archaeology of migration and a day photographing artefacts in a museum.

Purchases over the past few days' museum visits. Worth the 21 hours spent on trains! #archaeology #arthistory

I finally got to see this brooch at the National-Germanisches Museum in Nürnberg today. And many more amazing things. #archaeology #medieval #Ostrogoths

Tonight's the night! Booker Prize ceremony at 20:45 GMT, steamed live thebookerprizes.com/the-booker-l...

I've ranked them according to my own preferences here; it was hard to choose between James and Creation Lake. Thalia went with the latter, Clio the former.

Update, tub (and brain) now empty, moving onto a few swigs of Gaviscon.

Today I will mostly be eating my own weight in Tunnock's products.

All your fault @hornesupremacy.bsky.social for getting me hooked back in 2011 :P

This is my top six, ranked with first top left, with caveat that Joyce, Gogol and Cervantes left out to make things interesting.

The year in finished non-work #books.

It took most of my spare time, helped by Corona shielding due to poor health, + living away from home.

Not meant to guilt those who've had slower years reading wise, I've had plenty of those.

Hoping to start a books blog in 2024.
