‪Week 41: Poolside Views

Luna, Alex, and Mathias went for a walk by the river in South Perth and found Miller’s Pool (Goorgygoogup). Plenty of birds resting on the trees in the pool, including a particularly protective magpie.

‪Week 40: Milling Around

Luna, Alex, and Mathias explored the South Perth foreshore and found the old mill (Buryalup). They realised this was the same windmill they’d seen from the freeway.

Week 39: Gentle Giant

Mathias heard rumours of giants lurking in Mandurah.

He found Seba looking out over the water. Very large but surprisingly friendly and not at all intimidating.

‪Week 38: Among the Trees

Luna and Mathias woke up bright and early and took a drive towards the hills to enjoy the sunshine.

They found that someone had strangely planted trees right by the roadside.

‪Week 37: Spring has Sprung

Mathis made the most the most of the sunny morning by going for a bush walk at Bungendore Park.

He managed to find some wildflowers blooming, the first hint that spring is here.

Week 36: Bush Chook

Mathias went camping in Chittering and discovered some large flightless birds.

He later learned these are called Emus (pronounced “Bush Chook”) and realised he recognised them from the 50 cent coin.

Week 35: Golden Fields

Alex, Luna, and Mathias headed out towards York and found themselves surrounded by fields of Canola. They saw plenty of sweeping yellow fields amongst green paddocks and clear blue skies.

‪Week 34: Reaching New Heights

Mathias headed out to Roley Pool Reserve in Roleystone today for a bush walk. He scaled what felt like 100 boulders to reach the top of the world.

Week 33: Boardwalking on sunshine

The sunny weekend had Mathias excited for the beach. He headed to Leighton beach to enjoy the warm sunshine and was excited to get a glimpse of Rottnest Island. Surprisingly people were swimming 🥶

Week 32: Rainfall Makes Waterfall

After a few weeks with constant relentless rain, Mathias got out and explored Macora Falls.

He tells me the view from the top was beautiful, it was far too slippery for me to get up there with him without dropping my phone or knocking Mathias over.

Week 31: Constructing Cottesloe

Alex, Luna, and Mathias visited Cottesloe beach and surprisingly found it wasn’t as stormy as elsewhere. It felt strangely familiar to them, like it was part of their world.

Week 30: Neon Night Light

Mathias rugged up and visited Kings Park after dark for the Lightscape exhibit, along with half of Perth. He loved the glow of the neon tree, which beckoned him like a moth to a flame during the whole exhibit.

Week 29: First Light - Goolugatup

After being bed-ridden with influenza for a week, Mathias braved the literal freezing temperatures and headed to Goolugatup (Heathcote Point) to capture daybreak over the city.

Week 28: Oh Dam

‪Mathias crossed the dam at Mundaring Weir today.

‪He learned all about the “Scheme of Madness”, heard about CY O’Connor’s untimely death just 10 months before the pipeline successfully launched and found himself saying “Oh Dam!”

Week 27: Top of the Falls‬

‪Alex, Luna, and Mathias went for a bush walk at Ellis Brook, then climbed to the top of Sixty Foot Falls. ‬

‪The falls were slippery so Alex and Luna hung back. Mathias fell in, drifted downstream and had to be rescued 😬‬

Week 26: Upside Down Waterfalls

Mathias stumbled across a beautiful waterfall in Elizabeth Quay, but the water was falling from the ground up to the sky.

Week 25: Rainbow Road 🏳️‍🌈

Mathias found another rainbow, this time in Northbridge.

Sadly he still hasn’t found a pot of gold, but he did manage to catch a go kart race.

Week 24: Containing Rainbows

Alex, Luna, and Mathias found another rainbow, this time in Freo.

Sadly they still haven’t found a pot of gold, but they did find more of those strange looking giraffes.

Week 23: Reflecting Rainbows

Alex, Luna, and Mathias found another rainbow, this time on Matagarup Bridge.

Again, no pot of gold at the end, but they did find jellyfish.

It’s a stunning place. This bridge actually goes from the children’s hospital across the road into Kings Park. It’s got speakers which play a bunch of different soundscapes too. Really cool.

Week 22: Chasing Rainbows

Alex, Luna, and Mathias found a rainbow on Koolangka Bridge.
They didn’t find a pot of gold at the end, but they did find King’s Park.

Week 21: Canal Rocks

Mathias snuck down to Margaret River on the weekend.

On the way home he checked out Canal Rocks and loved the way the waves crashed on the rocks and flooded through the canals.

Week 20: ✨ Pew Pew Pew ✨

Mathias caught an interactive art exhibit in the old pickle factory this weekend.

One of the exhibits was a room filled with dance music and lasers.

It was all pew pew pew pew pew pew. Much culture.

Week 19: Sasha Bell’s Spot

Alex, Luna, and Mathias went to the beach at Sasha Bell’s Spot and did some snorkelling over Ningaloo Reef.

They saw plenty of pretty fish they don’t know the names of.

Week 18: Ningaloo Coast

Mathias took a quick drive up to the Ningaloo Coast to check out a different region of WA.

Luna and Alex are excited to explore the reef with Mathias, but the wind on top of the cliff was a bit much for them.
