Trying to make sense of this - it looks like for the category metro-choices couples spend more per person than single people. This must reflect the people they survey. Couples usually spend less per person, and do so for the other categories. The headline $1m figure comes from this result

there are a ton of changes in here but a huge one appears to be taking the Marsden fund, our main supporter of basic science, away from the Royal Society and handing it to a govt agency "Research Funding New Zealand" which does not yet exist

According to @clrenney.bsky.social, who I'm listening to at the moment, the care economy is going to be the fastest growing part of the economy or the next few decades, so this symposium seems timely!
