Slowly trying to make my first mask, estimated completion: Q3 2045
初めての着ぐるみマスクの作成に苦戦中
Mm... messed up a bit when mixing and got a lot of air bubbles. Luckily they aren't in the worst places so I should be able to use it for a test cast. Tbh I was afraid I'd destroy the whole mold when cracking it open...

Sculpting eyes inside out was definitely an experience... don't know if they'll be any good but practice is practice

So pretty 😲 So full of air bubbles

It did have a bit of seam I tried to shave most of it off but I think it still left a small seam there. The pain covered it a bit but also turned the surface from matte to shiny. I'm not sure how you'd turn the surface matte again, but the shinyness made it look gross and organ-like so it fits.

Pulling out the cast, the colors had travelled a bit more than I had planned, but overall it was a success.

Started off casting with a bit of white and then followed up with red slush cast to cover the whole surface. The pictures kinda look sus but I swear there is nothing strange going on in them...

The main mold for the mask was made from plaster poured directly on the clay master, with some cloth added for fiber. And surprisingly, it succeeded pretty much how it was supposed to. I mean of course it succeeded, there's no way I could fail anything I do, even if it's for the first time

I originally planned to cast the extra bits separately but the the molds didn't convince me and the mold for the big one would had been too complex to make, so I ended up making these bits from paper in the end

I have no idea how to smooth out the smooth parts, so far my plan is to just sand it after casting but I bet future me is going to curse me for that

Two days later it's starting to look closer to what it should

After a month of chopping and sawing, it looked almost the correct shape, and I could wrap it in plastic and start covering it with clay.

looking back at the photos, it was plenty good for what it was meant for. But I wasn't satisfied, I wasn't satisfied at all. I thought it's dumb looking, badly finished and from too hard material. So with a month left before I needed it, I started working on version 2...

And then finished off with a layer of paint and some fixes to the details
October 15, 2025 at 9:02 PM
It started out as a mess of newspaper, tape and plastic wrap, then covered with newspaper, wallpaper paste and a layer of white paper

The neck hole was also too small so I had to saw it larger to be able to test the size. In the end, this was never used for anything besides determining that size should be slightly bigger.

The supports inside it broke halfway into the print so I had to dump the inside full of tissues and whetever I could find, and somehow that was enough to get it printing the support again, just before it was needed.

It's a miracle that it didn't fail, at least badly. The size is a bit too small, I can barely fit it on, but that was part of what I was testing, so I'll count that as a success.
