Tech hack. Hacks tech. Was Prince Philip. Wrote firmware for Clive and Alan, wrote words for decades, now Register columnist and creative tech at Civic Digits. Quite blind. Music, history, radio, science. Only robots have to be binary: YMMV.
What I love about Apple iOS is attention to detail..

Old agency adage:

"If the client pouts and sighs
Make their advert twice the size
If that's still unsatisfactory
Show a picture of their factory
only in the direst case
Print a picture of their face"

And in Rupert's Inbox PR Surpise today... trials and tribbleations.

My T1154{R1155 RAF Bomber Command radios have arrived from Kent via a specialist courier. Far too heavy for one man to lift, and that's just the radios. The power supply is similar. All came with enormous amounts of documentation which is fantastic. Now to get it on the air.

400 miles from home. Return journey imminent. All the travel things on phone. Which phone? This phone. This afternoon. This ungood.

Fave new astrophysics - appreciable percentage of universe's gold created by transmutation in magnetar starquake flares. Hugely violent spasms of htperstrange physics. Philosopher's stone energetically improbable, I'm afraid.

Oh yuck. I was doing some digging around Windows' installed base, and look what Chrome's AI Overview cited as a source alongside Wikipedia. GB News.

What dark force is at work here?

Monty Python and the Holy Grail was, in fact, a documentary. Bring forth the Holy Hasnd Grenade of Antioch!

{Resl Holy Grail? Herodian ritually appropriate tableware may have looked like this.

For the first ime this year, the sun hits the spa box in the front room. This was my grandfather's, he was the vicar of Sparty Lee, a Northumbria mining village. When he left, the miners gave him this, containing minerals found underground. Mpst such have been broken up for specimens. Not here.

The Portal of Truth! Behold! Out main prop for the Hack Your Age workshop stage show in Leith this evening. It's a digital ouija board for the noosphere, man...

It's Thursday, which means I have a Register column deadline, and it's a rare sunny day here on the Forth at the edge of Edinburgh, so I have an excellent choice of procrastinaria... the plantive cry of the gulls battling the buzz of the drones.

Also, the ouija board incorporated the halting problem - that thing Turing did that was more consequential than his work at BP - and in the contemplation of which I came to realise that I covet Hilnert's hat.

Also today, I bought a lightbulb. Plug in and turn on: the whole oflightbulb lore, right? No. This is a Smart Bulb which means it has Technology to Make Life Easier. How much easier could it be than a five word installation process? Behold one side of The New Instructions!

The Independent is asking me to pay to remove cookies. This is against GDPR, unless I misunderstand it or unless the UK iis no longer in regulatory accordance.

Me not understanding things isn't news. The other options are more interesting.

Leith Harbour lighthouse looks like it should be turned into a fabulous cafe or art venue, but it's isolated on a footpath at the edge of Western Harbour. Really intriguing.

So I buy the odd radio. This one can mirror the screen to a monitor, so I have a chance of being able to see what I'm doing. Can't read the controls, but... I can operate my FT-101ZD by touch - this may be the first modern radio ditto. If only I could hack the UI colours.
