Finally, the post @bomkatt said she’d be interested in: Sweet Potato & Chorizo Hand Pies

The project is coming out of a a few months where I explored British style savory pies. They weren’t really my thing. This though was great—a merging of their pastry dough with more American flavors.

Had a moment of relief and elation on my run. I pulled out my phone and saw a text from an old boss/mentor. He had sent a pic of the letter I wrote twenty years ago thanking him for accepting me as a intern at his bakery.

It reminded me off all the years pushing myself and my staff to do […]

Accepted a position in a local college’s dining program. It’s gonna be good to feed people again. Work with my hands. Pass on a craft. Probably be a fucking mentor again. (Just got a text from a gal I trained over a decade ago!)

With ChatGPT 5 failing to count the number of b’s in “blueberry,”here’s my favorite AI prompt to ask. The information is very easy to find. Requires cross-referencing two small datasets then looking up stats from a well-known source. Plus, it’s a real […]

Small suggestion, you probably don’t even need it. But, if you already give to your local pubic radio or television station and are thinking of upping your donation—and especially if you live in an affluent area—maybe think about giving to one of the many smaller rural stations that heavily rely […]

[Literal 💩 & TFG]

This news from the NYT made wife and I cackle this morning. Yes, yes, we’re still in dire straits, but this shows the Guard doesn’t want to be there. Hard to do autocracy if the troops are with the people.

Not gonna be around much. Deleted *all* social media apps from my phone, and now it’s just a music and phone call machine. It’s GLORIOUS!

(And after a day’s work, the last thing I want is to keep looking at a computer screen.)

There is a world outside the internet!

Remind of such during an hour long first round interview this morning. No mention of technology, AI, or the internet. It was great!

A 70+ yo showed up in our yard this morning. We’re 1/4 off the road, abutting against pastures.

He said he was just cutting across to visit his daughter. I know just enough 70+ yo’s who do crazy shit to give him the benefit of the doubt, but offered an ATV ride anyway.

Good thing, because he […]

Just sharing this reminder of a really glorious day in the #mountains .
I spent quite a bit of time to find exactly THIS spot so that fore and midground blended so well together.

And currently I'm having this as a background image in teams. Sometimes I […]

Very slow and long 10.8’sh miles in very humid conditions. But! I might’ve found my new favorite road—winding, some fun hills, 1 1/2 lanes wide but paved. And of panoramic hilltop views before dipping down into shaded hollows.

I’ll be honest. As an American, I meet Americans from other regions and can often feel like I’ve nothing in common culturally. No shared food, music, and history can be *tricky*. There is no nation-wide common culture or heritage here.

What I assume though is a common belief in the Constitution […]

I’ll be supporting as many small races run by local RDs or groups. The money isn’t going away. It does some good, like keeping some races going when the original RD needs to move one.

Latest addition to the rebuild: Pecan Pie using Damon Lee Fowler’s recipe, a go to for 20 years or so. Brown sugar instead of Karo, so it isn’t quite as sweet. And enough pecans to fill the shell. And a healthy dash of bourbon or whiskey.

U.S. Resistance needs to approach the effort like a Backyard Ultra. We have to line up every hour, day, week, month and run our lap. Over and over again. There is no set distance. There is no finish line. We’ll only win when we wear them to the ground. And if don’t line up, we lose.

So that was […]

Same long run as last week, slightly harder effort by HR though RPE was about the same. Shaved 7+ minutes off the loop, legs felt stronger overall, few more light jogs up slight inclines.
