A 19th century baluster-shaped molded porcelain ewer with scrolling and feathered gilt decoration on a lobed pedestal base, the handle with gilt raised strap work; possibly Samson, or Minton, in the style of the Sèvres factory’s "pot à l’eau à la romaine". Nicely gilt, even if it is a copy.
MARKS Marked underneath S in gold. MEASUREMENTS Diameter with handle 4 1/2” (11.5 cm), height 7” (17.8 cm). PROVENANCE With Gail Geibel Antiques, New York, June 2021. Wheat shafts snuck in amidst the gilding where the handle attaches to the base. More scrolling wheat shafts underneath the straps while the handle attaches in two places, not one.
