This does have me wondering what the solution was for digital signage, because desktop licensing every computer running departure boards would be very expensive.

My bet is they built the departure displays using web technology and used the web font but I’d love to get confirmation.

There’s an interesting thing to tease out about typefaces - the shapes aren’t copyrightable. When you buy a font, you license software which does the math to render the forms. If you wanted to make your own version of a font, you could.

Good question - signs, posters, etc. are produced using a perpetual desktop license, a one time cost of ~$1300/computer (+/- w/bulk discounts). Companies tend to buy these licenses for teams who need them, so not everyone will have the font. This is why you’ll see some documents in default fonts.

I think this is a reference to a “Section 179 deduction” which allows you to deduct 28k for a vehicle over 6k lbs if used for business.

Needless to say this has lead to more unnecessarily heavy vehicles on the road.
