My very favorite koan is "if you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him," attributed to 9th century sage Lin Chi. It's generally interpreted to mean something like, "if you think you've found all the answers, you need to start questioning them." Which is solid, but I also like to take it quite literally and expand it to any great thinker. Find Jesus? Throw hands. Muhammed? En garde! Marx? Let's see who's victory is inevitable
