before that, there was only a bench

#ThenAndNow E.T.Seton pond, 2015 and 2025

out to shoot a few holes of frisbee golf at Seton last Tuesday, i took another picture (i have dozens) of the pond

i wanted to show what has changed, and by sheer coincidence here's a sweet pic from ten years ago on the very same day

i became aware of this a few years ago when i noticed gouges taken out of the telephone pole and broken safety glass on the sidewalk, and later was lucky enough to catch that one snowplow guy on video

it's not all bad news, though

the stairs and switchback trail on the north side of Eglinton are open
November 12, 2025 at 1:33 PM
update to my thread from a year ago about the stairs from Eglinton and Leslie down to E.T. Seton park

they're still closed

it's now been over 3 years since BlogTO did a story about it, using some of my pictures (see thread)

the same NOAA that Trump eviscerated because

1. NOAA shows how climate change, caused by the petroleum industry, will destroy us

2. people laughed at him when he altered a hurricane forecast using a sharpie

#OTD November 11 1813, the Battle of Crysler's Farm (approx 25km west of Cornwall, Ontario)

a British force with Canadian and Mohawk support chased, engaged, and proceeded to defeat a much larger army of Americans, causing them to abandon their invasion of Canada for this year

this photo from the Toronto Archives shows the Domtar plant in some detail, during the construction of the DVP over Beechwood Dr

i get the sense that the kiln is somehow connected to the chimney

did Domtar build around the much older kiln?
November 10, 2025 at 5:27 PM
now here's the Domtar plant, which operated from the 1960s until 1989, when all the buildings were demolished except a couple at the back now used as the Toronto Police Dog Training facility

can you get a feel for where this kiln from 1800 might be?
November 10, 2025 at 4:56 PM
first, the google map

as mentioned in previous replies, it's labelled as "The Great Honey Kiln of 1800" (the location is accurate)

nobody seems to know where this name came from
November 10, 2025 at 4:38 PM
no idea
November 9, 2025 at 11:52 PM
how about this baby, just a few hundred yards on the other side of the DVP
