I'm not seeing any reports that anyone was trapped

What does it mean that it's still in operation? It does commercial freight runs?

Lots of new antisocial behaviors on the streets, I guess

I don't mean to say that e-bikes aren't a problem, it sounds like sometimes they are. But my personal only issue so far is that they make me feel pretty slow when I'm biking around and they pass me, heh.

I've been having increasing numbers of close calls with just normal cars mostly. Sometimes also on the sidewalk
December 15, 2025 at 6:48 AM
Because keebler etc paid for them to be trending
December 15, 2025 at 1:39 AM
You are the asshole, sounds like you've never been called out before for it

We have the same problem of prioritization in San Francisco. Still no rail transit to the densest neighborhood in the US without rail transit (the Richmond district).

At least Latvia has 3 of the 4 tram systems in the baltics!

Upzoning doesn't make it harder for folks to rebuild their lives, it makes it easier for them and everyone around them
December 13, 2025 at 6:00 AM
Newsom had the opportunity to turn the rebuilding into more housing, but decided to "protect" these wealthy neighborhoods from upzoning. California is for the wealthy, is the message I get from him

What is the inaction behind "business with Tesla"?
December 12, 2025 at 4:45 PM
Those sound bad but is it really fair to categorize those specific two things as rent-seeking? Also LVT affects much more than totally unproductive land, like any level of inefficiency or speculation is going to be somewhat punished, and it changes the whole dynamic between landlords and the economy

For me, it would have been that there was not enough time to attend all 5 classes simultaneously and also be up to date on assignments. It's much easier as a working adult, to be able to focus on just one project at a time more or less.

There's beer in pretty much every gas station in California, is there something else that makes buc-ees great?
December 11, 2025 at 5:54 AM
if your concern is rent seeking, you should foremost consider a land value tax

If we're talking orbital, you need to blackbody radiate the heat away. Good news is you just need to be hot to radiate a lot (proportional to T^4). Bad news is electronics might not operate at those temperatures. You can also be really big to spread out the temperature but that only scales as R^2
December 10, 2025 at 6:07 PM
land value tax would solve this
December 8, 2025 at 6:50 PM
My people are not geographically sorted into one state
December 7, 2025 at 2:03 AM
A true sign of broad appeal
December 6, 2025 at 4:56 PM
Must depend on genre? All the new music I'm listening to is released as albums. Good albums this year include those by YHWH Nailgun, Clark, BCNR, Population II, PPC ...

*and significantly save money on housing, that is
December 5, 2025 at 8:05 PM
I'd hate to live in the country at this point, but I still would if the hypothesis were actually correct that I could just live a slight bit farther away from my job and make the same money with a slightly longer commute. It doesn't exist!

In San Francisco I catch the eye of the driver, who seems aware, and then drives into me anyway. The waymo I don't even need to try, I know I can be the reckless one and not get hit. This is daily reality already. Human drivers are not on our side.
December 5, 2025 at 7:52 PM
I agree but the trend right now is that waymo is allowed to exceed speed limits because California legislators don't care
