Brian, Lori and Ashley were out yesterday deploying two gliders for the NJ Research Monitoring Initiative. The gliders will collecgt data for the next month off NJ on temp, salinity, oxygen, pH, phytoplankton, zooplankton locations, fish/mammal tag tracking, and listening for whale calls.

RU38 has been in the Gulf of Mexico the last month to help with hurricane intensity forecasts. We covered the hull with a plastic mesh that keeps remora in the Gulf off the glider. Remora
can end the mission as it makes the glider too heavy. Just another challenge of operating AUVs in the ocean.

Captain Chip was up early this morning prepping for a oceanography class trip on the mighty Raritan. The RU Crew team was also up. Good thing we have a thermal camera on board to see them!

Last weekend, RUCOOL welcomed the NJ Governor's STEM Scholars program. These are some of the best and brightest high school student's in our state. Even asked me a couple of questions I had trouble answering! Smart kids!

The crew from RanMarine Technology was visiting RUCOOL today. They deployed a WasteShark in Passion Puddle and picked up some floating trash along with pesky algae. Thanks for helping us clean up our favorite pond!

Nicole & Chip were out with our RIOS summer interns recovering glider RU43 last week. This glider, funded by the #NJRMI, was swimming off NJ listening for fish & whales, while recording environmental data to give us an idea of the types of water masses certain fish & whales like to hang out in.
