Love big batteries, views my own
Isn’t this graph just excess mortality? It would be good to see opioid deaths graphed out separately— I thought they peaked in a similar timeframe as Covid in California.

Also contra his suggestion that classrooms would be half the size, the economics don’t work with classrooms that small so you are forced to try and close schools, which is extremely challenging.

Another reason why we love sleepaway camp… three weeks of zero screens, in the woods, and no parental helicoptering.

Yeah but then when they talk about how bad the bill is, then other people are like seeee Schumer secretly wanted it to pass!

Honestly when you step back, isn’t it wild that we have devised a system where generation and demand have to meet every second? I mean a feat of superb brilliance, but man!

I really want BlueSky to work but every week it gets crazier. 😭😭

To be fair, you do seem to get a lot of people yelling at you, even as you do a masterful job of explaining why our reps do things we might not, on first blush, like.

I thought we were all having AIs do this now?

I mean also following the graf about the swankiness of their events is what really made me think that events writ large were being discussed.
May 21, 2025 at 7:26 PM
Losing money on an event is a reasonable choice for a non-profit to make, losing money specifically on a fundraising event is … something else.
May 21, 2025 at 7:24 PM
I feel like what they meant to say was that it isn’t unusual to lose money on events — meaning to have ticket sales etc not cover the full cost of the event. At least I hope that’s what they meant!!!

What are people doing with all their time while AI agents crawl the dead internet?
May 20, 2025 at 7:30 PM
Does that change the overall economic dynamic away from shortages and recession and towards inflation only because it’s enough to get ships moving but still a major price adjustment? And I assume that’s better than shortages and recession in impact?

💯 I was there for four days on a longer trip in Italy and I was like, we could have just stayed here for a week.

I was so shocked by how much I loved Rome and how it was even better than the hype.

Yeah it’s too bad because he used to seem capable of giving interesting different perspectives— he once argued that Pfizer should have made the vaccine available a few weeks earlier than they did. Now he’s not just wronger he’s also way more boring.

As a non-expert, Prasad struck me as an interesting, sophisticated and heterodox thinker who gradually shed his heterodoxy during Covid to a more typical (less interesting) right wing perspective.

Yeah and the essay was fine and very personal! There are plenty of of reasons to prefer London over NYC, and nothing she spoke about in her essay had anything to do with NYC writ large. I think everyone is reacting to the headline.

When we take the 48, it’s all middle schoolers. Later closer to Lincoln I think it becomes all high schoolers. I don’t think a bus like that is suited to be a rapid….
May 4, 2025 at 2:04 PM
I call this one the school bus because of the sheer number of schools it passes. It’s critical transport for many of our kids. I will say that over the past couple years, service has improved and gotten more reliable. On weekday mornings before school, the bus comes about every 10 mins.

That may be … I admit to enjoying the occasional (brief) conversation on airplanes!! 😂
April 27, 2025 at 5:15 PM
Oh I think you’re reading it as she likes to inconvenience earbud wearing row mates. I read it more as a remonstration to herself to not just put on her earbuds and to allow herself to be inconvenienced by strangers.
April 27, 2025 at 4:54 PM
But as an extrovert, making small talk on planes is more fun for me than most, so I recognize that I can’t fully understand your experience.
April 27, 2025 at 3:20 AM
I once read advice that if you want to strike a conversation, to only do so as the plane was landing because that limits the interaction. Does that feel like a helpful addendum? Because I do actually think talking to strangers is an important art, that we’ve been rapidly losing since Covid.
