Pundits never point out that Republicans are ideologically opposed to social safety nets; it's not a quirk of Trump times. And, red states rely on the federal government more than blue states. Why can't Dems point this out to red state voters?

@stephruhle.bsky.social I loved your Friday roundtable last night. It reminded me of the old Dick Cavett show. More of this, please...

Sadly, the Biden Administration officials who initiated this partnership under the Inflation Reduction Act couldn’t be present. 😏

From salon.com:

The hard truths: Chuck Schumer and the Democratic establishment are losing relevance, AIPAC and the pro-Israel lobby have become toxic forces in Democratic politics, and a united grassroots movement built on a working-class agenda can—and will—beat the billionaire-backed status quo.

The two sides:

Trump followers = royalists, bosses, Nazis, slave-owners, antidemocrats, pedophiles

Trump opponents = patriots, workers, anti-fascists, freedom fighters, democracy lovers, anti-pedophiles

@matthewjdowd.bsky.social You are an excellent commentator. I am shocked at MSNBC for their actions. What you said was obviously the truth and was NOT disrespectful to Mr. Kirk. I don't understand why MSNBC is bending the knee to Trump, when there was nothing to bend a knee for. It's embarrassing!

Elizabeth Warren on CNBC this morning, talking about Trump firing Labor statistics chief and NYC mayoral contest.

She was great -- as usual -- and made me feel better; (I'm not going crazy!) Proud that she's my Senator...

MAGA supporters (and regular Republicans as well) are filled with fear and anger -- always looking for others to blame things on -- and adding cruelty to the mix, whenever possible. Apparently, for some people, anger makes them feel less afraid and more powerful.

@chrislhayes.bsky.social Someone on your show the other day said that Dems thinking of running for President should start campaigning now.

You poo-pooed it, but I hope it happens because Dems have to start improving their image and pushing an agenda. This would be an ideal way to do it.

Trump’s fear that people will notice he’s stupid is never far from the surface, but his narcissistic anxiety is clearly aggravated by fears that Ocasio-Cortez is a formidable political opponent. (Salon.com)

The Republican Party is the party of the "fat cat". Since there aren't enough fat cats to keep the party in office, it needs to continually stoke anger in its non-fat-cat voters who are bonded to them through anger (undergirded by fear). The bond endures because "there's a sucker born every minute."

While people were losing their retirement money, veterans were losing their jobs, babies in other countries were losing their lives, Trump was golfing and hosting a million-dollar-a-plate dinner for his closest friends. He's raking in the dough and doesn't care about anybody else. Not surprising!

@downtownjoshbrown.bsky.social When are CNBC analysts going to face reality, the way Steve Weiss does, and admit that the current admin is not normal, and should not be treated as such. Look at Trump's first admin, at what he actually says, at his cabinet, and at Project 2025!

@jimcram.bsky.social Trump is not concerned about the working class! He's interested in billionaires like himself -- but mostly himself -- and how he can make as much money as possible!

@maddow.msnbc.com

Dems used to be the party of the little guy, while Repubs were the party of rich people and big business. Repubs threw out some cultural red meat, and now blue collar people see Dems as the elitists. Dems need to shift back to an economic message.
