It's granny's 93rd birthday! She's the cutest being on earth and I love her so much! She was the only woman to graduate at her university in her year (in the 50's) and she dedicated her life to teaching history and geography. Some of her students showed up to the party this weekend. I couldn't be

Oh nom nom nom 😋 This is just delicious! I love Sao Paulo for its culinary diversity. It's a horrible looking city, but the food is great. 🍛

I've just had a super nice day with my friends in Capitólio (Minas Gerais, Brazil). It's been ages since I last went to such a beautiful place. Brazil is amazing! #travelsky #travel

Vejam como elas estão defensivas! Amo essas guerreirinhas. #abelhas

This is an iraí bee (Nannotrigona testaceicornis), one of our native stingless bees from Brazil. It's a very docile and small bee, measuring up to 4mm. I just found it today in my garden, foraging on my basil flowers. #macrophotography #stinglessbees #bee

Since it's mantis day for me (I just made it up as an excuse to post this beauty), here's another pic I made today of this buddy I found in my garden. #macrophotography #macrophoto #mantis #insects

Who can resist the charm of this baby? 😍🕷️
I found this jumping spider a few years ago in a tree trunk at a park and couldn't leave the place until I got a few shots. I miss my macro photography walks and I might start doing them again!

This is what happens to most mandaçaia bee princesses (Melipona quadrifasciata): they're either emprisoned in an internal cage inside the hive or expelled. This one was lucky it wasn't decapitated - or maybe she was unlucky after all, because her destiny became to die of starvation or to be eaten

This is one of my first experiments with focus stacking. This is a mandaçaia bee (Melipona quadrifasciata anthidioides) that unfortunately passed away after an entire life of service to her colony. RIP, my little fellow! 🐝🖤🙏

Its green eyes are also a highlight to me. They look like jewels! Can you see its mandibles on the pics? That's what they use to defend themselves. Once an invasive bee or a predator threatens the nest, they lock their mandibles in them. That can be painful because they usually aim at the eyelids.

For those interested in #bees, this is a Melipona mondury, commonly named "Uruçu amarela" or "Bugia" in Brazil. It produces my favourite type of honey, the most delicious to my taste, and is a very beautiful bee. I love its golden fur! As a melipona, it's stingless and offers only cuteness! 🐝 #macro

This is how mirim #bees (Plebeia sp.) nidify, usually in tree hollows, although nowadays they're all over the cities building their nests in walls and other human-made structures. This beehive happened to be in the park behind my house. The scenes inside the hive were taken from my friend's

This bad boy appeared in my garden a while ago, right after I started to plant different kinds of plants for my bees and new kinds of insect started to show up. Mantises are such nice looking predators, aren't they? #macrophoto #insects #macropix #closeup

Have you ever seen stingless bees? These are the cute jataí bees, native to Brazil and a few other countries in Latin America. They're very important pollinators who have adapted to life in cities, often being found in walls and in tree hollows (their original nidification place in nature).
