I play games in both analytical and self imposed challenges. I tend to play simulation, tycoon, city builders, settlement builders, survival crafters, etc.
Unfortunately if there were still too many applicants the things screened on would become less relevant and more arbitrary until that number was manageable.

With tech startups a lot of time I'd actually see your application, then make the call to interview you.
Big companies we had recruiters and screening tools. Candidates would be parsed down to a manageable number to interview before I see any.

I do think the best solution would be allowing viewers to opt out.

Often it's just that activity isn't something they do much of at all. So no need or justification for spending more on it.
