If asked to describe the Bad Bunny halftime show in one word, I would say love. Love of country, of culture, of music, but, overall, a deep love of people.

Was there’s lust as well? Sure. For better or worse, that’s the world we live in.

Was there hate? Absolutely not.

From the new Brad Stulberg book: We live in an age of ultra processed food, ultra processed entertainment, and ultra processed connection, but our brains and bodies were not built for any of it.

The difference in pursuing excellence and flow states: Flow is values-neutral, and can help or hurt, depending on the activity. Excellence is values-laden and requires effort. Pursuing excellence can encompass flow, but being totally engrossed for hours at a casino is not the same as excellence.

I had tears in my eyes when he handed his Grammy to that little boy. The symbolism of that act, saying, without words, “Hey Pápi, this is for you too. This is for all of us” was so beautiful and poignant.

The only thing stronger than hate is love.

If I had the opportunity to ask a question during a political debate, I would ask the candidates to describe their reading habits. I think I could learn a lot more about what kind of a leader they would be from that question than anything else I could ask.

Actual Trump Team convo:
“Bro, we need to have a highly sensitive conversation. Should we do it on a public app that could be hacked by enemies?”
“Right on dude! I’ll set up the group chat!”
“Hey, should we include a random journalist that could publish the entire conversation?”
“Sure thing, bro!”

Our political identities, religious identities, and all other personal identities are, in essence, the stories we tell ourselves (and others) about ourselves. It deeply saddens me to see people sacrifice rights and freedoms for nothing more than to defend the stories they tell about themselves.

What worries me most are not people who lack empathy for anybody, but those that have empathy only for their in group and feel that anyone that doesn't look like them, think like them, or act like them it not worthy of their empathy.

Cannot believe Trump just blamed the airplane crash in DC on efforts to hire people with disabilities.

Great thoughts on reading with your ears and reading with your eyes.
I find Audiobook Discourse somewhat exhausting, but I nonetheless decided to weigh in on it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=80SC...

Life these days is so hard, and many desperately want to feel like they’re winning at something. Unfortunately, too many seek to win by “owning” and “blasting” their perceived enemies and inferiors. We are pushing each other down when we should be rising together.

Many Latino immigrants in Los Angeles worked to extinguish some of the fires with hoses. They aren't firefighters, they were just helping people in other neighborhoods.

Much of American Christianity today is sorely lacking in two fundamental things:
1. Appreciation and application of critical thinking skills
2. A solid understanding of who the Lord, Jesus Christ, truly is and the principles that define His gospel.

"Rarely do we find men who willingly engage in hard, solid thinking. There is an almost universal quest for easy answers and half-baked solutions. Nothing pains some people more than having to think"

So much analysis of how the Dems failed in their messaging. Perhaps it wasn’t Dems failing to reach voters, but a failure instead of the American people to look beyond the politics of grievance and fear. If our culture doesn’t change, it won’t matter what our messaging looks like every 4 years
