Classic movie fan - westerns, film noir, melodrama but whatever there is basically, blogger and educator. I also love classic crime and detective fiction, Hemingway, Sinatra and on and on....
I've always struggled with this movie too, although I wouldn't say I struggle now - I've simply accepted that I don't like it and particularly Gould's interpretation of Marlowe.

A lot of people have complained about the ending, but it's never bothered me in the least. In fact, I quite like it. If anything it cements the morality tale aspect of it all, or its cautionary tale status if you prefer. I consider that perfectly acceptable and well within the bounds of film noir.
