Had she been killed by Iran’s regime, women & men around the world, and especially in the West, would have (rightly) had an apoplectic fit of outrage and gone into the saviour mode…

Parnia Abbasi, a 24-year-old Iranian poet, has been killed in last night's attacks by Israel against a residential complex in Tehran's Sattarkhan neighborhood. Her younger brother and parents were also killed in the airstrikes.

Though we watched it unfold, the sharp turn to illiberalism, upending of ideals cherished in the democratic world especially India & US, & enthusiastic embrace of the dark side as policy (anti-minorities, anti-immigrants, anti-environment, anti-LGBTQ+, pro-oligarchs…) in just a decade is staggering!
