My hiatus from YA novel writing is going well. Another 2000 words today. #writingcommunity

My latest YA novel, Murder on the Utopia, made the shortlist of the Letter Review Unpublished Prize. It didn't win, but I'm still delighted and encouraged to keep going... #writingcommunity

Just submitted to the Edinburgh Young Adult Novel Award. One of the judges is an agent I've already sent an extract to... Unsuccessfully. Facepalm.

Yesterday's word count 3236. Today, 1 x submission to a literary agent.
Tomorrow, back to my other job. Eesh.

I don't even like boxing, but I do like Rocky. This quotation keeps me going. The sheets of paper beneath it are where I keep my rejection letters, inspired by Steven King's approach to getting knocked back. I haven't had to replace the nail with a bigger one yet (like he did) but I'm not far off.

Planner or pantser? Normally, I'm the latter, but this time I had a plan. I knew exactly where it was going.
6,000 words in and it's gone out of the window.
