#UK: The Government's response to an enquiry into transnational repression lacks a clear plan of action for engagement with those targeted by TNR. RSF has joined the Tackling Transnational Repression in the UK Working Group in writing to the Home Secretary asking for more robust action.

#Czechia: RSF calls on the ODS party to publicly condemn the serious threats one of its members made against 2 journalists. He first targeted Bretislav Turecek, who had given a talk on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, then went after Vojtech Berger, who wrote about the threats against Turecek.

#Belarus: RSF condemns the sentencing of Siarhei Chabotska, founder of the independent website s13.ru, to three and a half years in prison for “extremism” and “defamation of the president.” He is among 31 media professionals imprisoned because of their work. RSF calls for their immediate release.

#Moldova: RSF condemns the death threats against journalist Mariana Rata following her show featuring pro-Russian "Our Party" MP Renato Usatîi. The extremely violent statements made on Facebook are unacceptable. RSF urges the authorities to launch an immediate investigation into the author.

#Ukraine: Journalist Daryna Trunova of the Ukrainian TV channel 24 has been the target of numerous online insults and threats after doing her job by reporting the death of a man mobilised in the army. RSF condemns these hateful attacks and calls for the journalist's protection.

#Moldova: RSF condemns the cyberbullying campaign against Radio Moldova Comrat journalist Elena Celac, who was targeted after questioning an elected official about his accusations against opponents. The authorities must act to protect the journalist by punishing those responsible for these attacks.

#Italy: last night, a bomb exploded under journalist Sigfrido Ranucci’s car, thankfully causing no injuries. RSF firmly condemns this attack — one of the most serious against an 🇮🇹 reporter in recent years — and calls on the authorities to protect Ranucci and bring those responsible to justice.

#Bangladesh: Ekhon TV journalists Hossain Jihad and Pervez Rahman, who were reporting on a murder in Jungle Salimpur, were brutally attacked on 5 October. Their equipment was damaged and their belongings stolen. RSF calls for a swift investigation and for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

#Ukraine: RSF was at the #DonbassMediaForum in Kyiv to present its EU-supported project to support journalism in 🇺🇦. Alongside the media outlet Slidstvo.info and freed reporter Dmytro Khyliuk, RSF also reaffirmed its determination to secure the release of the 26 journalists 🇺🇦 detained by #Russia.

These journalists need parliament's support.

#Guinea-Bissau: The Supreme Court barred journalists from Capital FM, Galaxia de Pindjiguiti, and Voz de Quelélé from attending its Sept 25 press conference, without explanation. RSF condemns this obstruction and urges the Chief Justice to respect the right to information.

#Azerbaijan: Yesterday, out of nowhere, detained Abzas Media journalists Sevinj Vagifgizi, Nargiz Absalamova & Elnara Gasimova were suddenly transferred to a prison located several hours away from the capital and their relatives. RSF condemns this extra punitive measure and calls for their release.

#Netherlands: RSF condemns the assault of at least 7 journalists in The Hague on 20/9. They were injured while covering a protest against asylum policies. The perpetrators must be prosecuted and the 🇳🇱 reporters must be able to work without fearing for their safety.

#Ukraine: 25 years ago, Georgiy Gongadze, founder of media outlet Ukrayinska Pravda, was abducted in Kyiv and later found murdered. RSF pays tribute to the journalist and calls for justice to be done — the masterminds of the crime remain at large.

#Belarus: after the release (and expulsion) of 9 media workers last Thursday, journalist Ihar Ilyash has been sentenced to 4 years in prison for "discrediting" and "promoting extremist activities." We condemn this sham trial and demand the release of Ilyash & the 32 other journos behind bars.
